Elections were held on Thursday, 27th of June, to elect the new President of Cairo University. Final Competition for the top position of the most prestigious Egyptian university was between:

Prof. Gaber NASSAR, current Vice Dean of Faculty of Law

Prof. Azz-El-Din ABOSTAT, current Vice President for Student Affairs

Final vote was very close with 74 votes going to Prof. NASSAR and 73 votes going to Prof. ABOSTAT.
